It All Starts With A Plan

Most new internet marketers become inundated with conflicting methods and strategies of making money online. The reality is all those techniques and strategies are only tools for the online business. The business itself needs its own plan for uniting products and services to meet customer demands.

There are two absolute key concepts to successfully creating a long term online money making business.

You need a business plan  - then use the tools and strategies.
Most new people to online marketing go through a stage of consistently changing strategy and being bombarded with information overload. For a while they feel like they are achieving and tracking Ok on a very steep learning curve. But inevitably they eventually reach a few mini-goals where they have set up several web pages, blogs or lenses and have them operating only to find they make virtually no money.

Their initial reaction is that they need new or more strategies so the go in search and go through the same process again only to find they repeat the process and again make little to no money. Eventually they reach the point of complete frustration, information overload and it is at this point that 80% or more of new internet marketers give up.

What they have failed to realize is that they tried to set up an online business just using the tools and strategies without a business model or plan. All the posts on forums, PDF’s and software out there are only tools to help an online business make money. They are not the business itself.

To create an online business that actually makes good money online it needs to be set up as a business. You need to establish areas of customer demand, find products and services that satisfy those needs and then market these products to those customers. The tools and strategies are then used to market to those customers. This is the key to making profit.

 

Tips For Writing A Perfect Business Plan

Before you start your plan, research and answer these questions:

• What niche or customer need/s will my business fill?
• What services or products will I sell to meet these needs?
• Will these needs change over time? If so how will I change to meet the new customer needs?
• How much competition am I up against?
• What will my competitive advantage be over my competition?
• If I have no competitive advantage, how much market share can I gain just by being a competitor?
• Can I deliver a better quality service, price, added bonus products, customer support etc?
• Can I create a demand for my products, or better still is there and existing demand?

If your small business ideas are feasible after researching and answering all of the above then try researching and answering these to see if you should proceed:

• What will be my legal structure?
• What skills and experience do I bring to the business?
• What insurance coverage will I need?
• How will my business records be maintained?
• What equipment or supplies and technology will I need?
• How and when will I pay myself and where will the money come from?
• What financing will I need?
• How will I mange risk so that if it all fails I survive?
• What will I name my business?  Research “Branding”
• Does my home have the space (preferably separate) for a business?
• Can I deal with the isolation of working from home?

Your business plan is a blueprint for your success, so don't scrimp on the details. A good business plan covers the following areas:

• Describe the business and its goals.
• Identify the ownership and the legal structures.
• Discuss skills and experience you and your partners bring to the business.
• Identify advantages over your competitors.
• Explain how the business will be managed
• Consider expansion and scaling issues prior to them occurring.
• Consider insurance, lease or rent agreements
• Estimate all costs for the first 12 months
• Do a cash flow projection
• Describe your products or services.
• Identify the customer demand
• Identify your target market, and how you will be able to market to them.
• Explain how you will advertise and market
• Explain your pricing strategy.
• Work out an Exit plan if it all fails – DO THIS PRIOR TO STARTING

How to Write a Business Plan For New Businesses
Just research the flowing five questions that banks or investors will want answered:
1. Are the products or services feasible? Discuss issues related to manufacture times, resources, costs and other issues.
2. Do customers really want this product or service? Prove it.
3. Is the business profitable? Prove it with projections that link to the proof above.
4. Is the return on investment adequate to be profitable AND service debt and cover opportunity costs?  Show calculations and they must be relevant to evidence above.
5. Can management operate the business? Prove to us you know what you are doing, have planned it out and have considered lots of the issues that may arise.

 

Understanding Affiliate Programs and MLM’s
There is no doubt that good money can be made from affiliate marketing and MLM type products and services. However you need to understand the business behind MLM’s. 

MLM’s are setup to predominantly benefit one person – the author. MLM’s rely on the recruitment of vast numbers of people to do the marketing and work to benefit the author. That’s not to say that MLM’s are bad, but your goal should always be to be at the top or close to the top of an MLM.
